Sean: The Year is 2050 and Live Music has Become a Thing of the Past...

The year is 2050 and live music has become a thing of the past. You sit in your living room, rewatching videos from the comfort of your couch, from a gig you attended 30 years ago.

You reminisce all about your complaints that night at having to spend £4.80 on a pint of Tuborg, trying to battle your way through a sweaty crowd to get a half decent view of the stage and how your legs and feet were killing you from standing for so long. It's a thing of the past, and yet, after all these years, you would happily relive all of these small inconveniences for the chance to attend just one more live gig.

I know I'm not the only one who has missed live music since this Covid induced shutdown began, as stated in my last blog post, but with no end in sight, and with the government's recommendation that anyone working in the creative industries should consider 'retraining', it's hard to honestly believe that live music will return anytime soon.

More and more artists have been performing live streams online and recording and releasing covers as content on their social media pages, which has definitely helped ease a very small portion of the pain from missing live gigs... but it's a very small consolation. In my last blog I highlighted how I had been going back over albums that I used to listen to on repeat, but over the past month or 2, I have been more focussed on catching up on all the latest releases.

The reason behind this is largely thanks to some artists resurfacing with new music, such as Pendulum, and then the long awaited Metrik album that was released in June and Muzz's album 'The Promised Land' in September. I have waited for both the Metrik album and the Muzz album with bated breath for months! Fortunately, neither disappointed and are well worth anyone's time.

Taylor Swift's latest release, 'Folklore', has just become the first album of 2020 to break a million sales and this is without much, or any, pre-release hype or promotion. Bring Me The Horizon have continued to release stellar singles over the past few months with their new album just being released as I write this.

Other new albums that I would recommend include: Major Lazer's 'Music Is The Weapon', Sub Focus & Wilkinson's 'Portals', Diplo's MMXX album, Faithless' 'All Blessed' and Dario G's new album 'Hola'. Now all that's left is to listen to these albums on repeat and pray that I can go and see them performed live within the next 30 years.

Stay safe, Sean x
